SUMMARY:Blessing of the Animals
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the blessing of the animals is traditionally connected to the date of St. Francis’ death in early October? St. Francis was renowned for remembering the sanctity and care for all life\, animals and people. \nThis Sunday\, October 5th\, we invite you to bring your pets (or a photo if they don’t travel well) to the lower church green at 2 p.m. (right outside the NE door)\, for our annual Blessing of the Animals. Children are welcome to bring a favorite stuffed animal for a blessing as well. If you have lost a pet\, feel free to come as we also will have a time of silence and remembrance. Donations (monetary and food/toys\, etc.) will be accepted for a local animal shelter \nThis is a wonderful service to give thanks for all of life that God has created! “Praised be you\, my Lord\, with all Your creatures\, especially Sir Brother Sun\, who is the day and through whom You give us light\, and he is beautiful and radiant with great splendor; and bears a likeness of You\, Most High One. Praised by You\, my Lord\, through our Sister Mother Earth\, who sustains and governs us\, and who produces various fruit with colored flowers and herbs.” St Francis\, 13th c. \n

SUMMARY:The Rev. Dr. Frank Crouch – Guest Preacher & Lectures
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to race and racism\, Moravians have our own stories of villains and heroes\, complacency and prophecy\, complicity and resistance. Moravian archival records\, both North and South\, reveal a long-term insider view of the actions and decisions of church leaders\, congregations\, agencies\, and Synods. Some of these have lain dormant\, without public discussion\, for decades or centuries. We’ll explore some of the lowlights and highlights of what Moravians have done––for worse and for better––with respect to slavery\, segregation\, and discrimination. These sometimes sobering\, sometimes inspiring stories offer both a lens and a mirror\, as we look at “them” then and ourselves now. \nThe Rev. Dr. Frank Crouch will be our guest preacher on June 1st and will present his two-part lecture series on Wednesday\, June 4 and Wednesday\, June 11 at 7 p.m. in the Christian Education building\, lower level. Both lectures will also be available through Zoom; the links are below:\nLecture 1: June 4th at 7 p.m. – https://tinyurl.com/4f44tk45\nLecture 2: June 11th at 7 p.m. – https://tinyurl.com/4m9ykdut
