SUMMARY:Bethlehem Town hall Rotunda Gallery\, Bethlehem Area School District Student Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Bethlehem Area School District will be exhibiting a student art exhibition at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from April 6 to May 14\, 2026.  There will be an opening reception on Sunday\, April 12 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.  The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. \nThis exhibition is a combined effort of the Bethlehem Area School District’s art teachers.  Art is an integral part of the learning process and gives a student a chance to explore the material world.  In this exhibition will be but a small part of the wonderful body of artwork produced by the many children in the classrooms on a daily basis.  This will be a collection of artwork created during the 2025-26 school year. \nThe artists are Bethlehem students enrolled in the Bethlehem Area School District public schools.  They range in age from kindergarten through high school.  Although they are very different from each other\,  all of these children share the joy of expressing themselves through the media of the visual arts. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission (www.bfac-lv.com) and the PA Council of the Arts.

SUMMARY:Bethlehem Steel Flashlight Tours
DESCRIPTION:Join us during First Fridays for Bethlehem Steel Flashlight Tours!\nMany places in the massive Bethlehem Steel plant were 24/7 operations.  Although some areas glowed with molten metal after sunset\, other locations were dark\, illuminated only when workers with company issued flashlights navigated the maze-like facilities.  Now guests can participate in a guided tour of the plant after dark\, utilizing flashlights to experience the former steel mill by spotlighting specific features and peering into areas otherwise in the shadows during the day.  The tours will leave from the Museum\, walk the Hoover-Mason trestle\, look at the east side of the blast furnace complex from the ground\, and return to the Museum at street level\, all while using flashlights to focus on details and stories from “The Steel.”\nPlease bring your own flashlight and wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants will be required to sign a waiver at check in.  This tour happens entirely in public spaces\, but in the dark\, with uneven surfaces and limited visibility.  It is not a haunted/ghost tour\, but some visitors may be uncomfortable with the lack of light\, strange noises\, and heights (46 feet). In the case of inclement weather (including rain\, snow/ice\, heavy winds\, lightning)\, please check the museum website and WFMZ storm center for cancellations.

Let each landmark breathe its secrets back to life as the city transforms around you. \nPress play and plunge beneath the surface of Bethlehem’s most intriguing streets.

SUMMARY:Christmas Putz & Star & Candle Shoppe
DESCRIPTION:at \n \n \n\nThe holiday shopping season is upon us\, and the Moravian History Store has something for everyone on your list! This year\, the History Store is once again partnering with Central Moravian Church to manage the Star and Candle Shoppe. Browse a dazzling array of holiday treasures\, including\, authentic Herrnhuter Moravian Stars\, handcrafted ornaments and holiday décor\, beautiful Moravian star jewelry\, and themed glassware\, tumblers\, and more. \nSince 1937\, Central Moravian has been offering a Community Putz for the City of Bethlehem. Like a crèche\, a putz tells the story of Jesus’ birth with carved figures.  A cherished tradition\, the Putz (from the German word putzen\, meaning “to decorate”) retells the wonderful story of Christ’s birth through narration and music\, while tiny lights illuminate each miniature scene. The figures\, many of them antiques of German origin\, are nestled amidst live moss\, driftwood and rocks. The practice of putz building is uniquely Moravian. Bethlehem’s first settlers brought their putz figures with them in the 18th century. In Victorian days\, it was the custom in Bethlehem for Moravians to “go putzing” during the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s\, enjoying others’ putzes.\nPutz & Star & Candle Shoppe Hours: Thursdays and Fridays: 1 – 7 p.m.\, Saturdays: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.\, Sundays: 1 – 5 p.m.\,\nAfter Christmas\, open daily 1 – 5 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n Add to calendar \n\n\n\n \n Google Calendar \n \n\n \n iCalendar \n \n\n \n Outlook 365 \n \n\n \n Outlook Live \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Details\n	\n\n\n Date:\n \n \n \n \n\n Time:

DESCRIPTION:Join the SouthSide Arts District and Lehigh University as we celebrate the blossoming of a new mural along the Greenway in SouthSide Bethlehem.\nA public ribbon-cutting and celebration with food\, drinks\, and more will take place:\nFriday\, May 1\, 2026\n4:00 – 6:00 PM\nCountry Club Brewing\n323 Pierce St\, Bethlehem\, PA\nThe event is free and open to the public.\nSteel Rooted / Wild Blooms is the result of a cross-disciplinary course uniting students from the departments of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES)\, Environmental Studies (EVST)\, and Art\, Architecture\, and Design (AAD).\nLed by Assistant Teaching Professor Deirdre Murphy\, the course brings together students from diverse academic backgrounds to explore environmental issues through public art. Approximately half of the class represents the arts\, while the other half comes from scientific disciplines\, fostering a dynamic exchange between research and creative practice.\nStudents began the project by engaging deeply with ecological topics\, including biodiversity\, conservation\, and speciation\, through lectures by EES faculty and researchers. Community engagement played a central role\, with students gathering input from Bethlehem residents to help shape the mural’s themes and imagery. Working in interdisciplinary teams\, students conducted research on subjects ranging from regional watershed systems to local land history. These investigations informed initial mural proposals\, which were refined through critiques with visiting artist Jason Slowik\, Southside Arts District and Bethlehem Fine Arts Council. The final design reflects a collaborative vision grounded in both scientific insight and artistic expression.\nInstalled on the patio of Country Club Brewing (323 Pierce Street)\, the mural features native flora and fauna significant to the Bethlehem region. Species depicted include the red fox\, eastern mole\, chimney swifts (the Bethlehem city bird)\, and the endangered blue-spotted salamander and rusty patched bumblebee. Native plants such as pawpaw\, coneflowers\, and paper birch highlight the ecological importance of pollinator habitats\, while a cultivated hops plant pays tribute to the brewery setting.\nBy foregrounding these species\, Steel Rooted / Wild Blooms aims to foster environmental awareness and a deeper connection to local ecosystems among community members and visitors alike.\nWe are grateful for the sponsorship from Lehigh University’s Earth Environmental Science program and the Marjorie Nemes foundation\, Environmental Studies department\, Art\, Architecture and Design\, Country Club Brewery\, Southside Arts District and Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission\n \n
