DESCRIPTION:PRESS RELEASE \nLehigh Valley painter\, Lois Schlachter will be exhibiting her abstract paintings titled Whimsical Fantasies at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from August 17 to September 23\, 2025.  There will be an opening reception on Sunday\, August 17 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM with an artist talk at 3:00 PM.  The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nPainting for Lois is a way to express herself.  She is interpreting the world around her. The pieces in the show are her subconscious impressions and interpretations of life events over the last 10 years.  Lois loves organization\, balance\, color\, and a little intrigue.  She has attached a story with each painting in which she shares her thoughts. \nLois Schlachter describes herself as a geometric Abstract Expressionist.  She was born in Philadelphia and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  She is presently a resident of Kunkletown\, PA where she spends most of her time in her studio or walking her two Standard Poodles. She enjoys the fellowship of other artists\, like-minded people and is member of many organizations. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission (www.bfac-lv.org) and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. \n

DePietro (painting)\, Barbara Kozero (mosaic/sculpture)\, Jacqueline Meyerson (pastel). \nFor the past eleven years\, the 5 x 5 Artist Group has presented annual art exhibits entitled the “5 x 5 Show” in various art spaces throughout the Lehigh Valley or surrounding regions. The concept for these exhibitions is to showcase the artistry and talent of ‘5 artists in 5 media’ to highlighting their unique visions and individual style while celebrating the distinctive nature of their respective media. \nA FREE Opening Reception will be held on September 5\, 2025 from 6-8 PM in the school’s Corpora Gallery as part of the Southside Arts District’s First Friday celebration.The exhibit will be on display through October 17\, 2025. \nThe Charter Arts Visual Arts Department hosts both professional and student exhibitions throughout the year. Artistic Director\, Lorie Jane Devereux shares\, “By interacting with professional artists and their collections\, our students have the opportunity to experience new perspectives on how to think about their own work. Additionally\, we use images and our own designs to create handcrafted gifts such as resin bookmarks and coasters\, wine glass charms\, keychains and laser-etched glassware.\nRenee Rozaieski\nI am a figure artist with works done in graphite\, soft pastel\, and mixed media centered around the human form. SUMMARY:Bethlehem Steel Flashlight Tours
DESCRIPTION:Join us during First Fridays for Bethlehem Steel Flashlight Tours!\nMany places in the massive Bethlehem Steel plant were 24/7 operations.  Although some areas glowed with molten metal after sunset\, other locations were dark\, illuminated only when workers with company issued flashlights navigated the maze-like facilities.  Now guests can participate in a guided tour of the plant after dark\, utilizing flashlights to experience the former steel mill by spotlighting specific features and peering into areas otherwise in the shadows during the day.  The tours will leave from the Museum\, walk the Hoover-Mason trestle\, look at the east side of the blast furnace complex from the ground\, and return to the Museum at street level\, all while using flashlights to focus on details and stories from “The Steel.”\nPlease bring your own flashlight and wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants will be required to sign a waiver at check in.  This tour happens entirely in public spaces\, but in the dark\, with uneven surfaces and limited visibility.  It is not a haunted/ghost tour\, but some visitors may be uncomfortable with the lack of light\, strange noises\, and heights (46 feet). SUMMARY:Kieran Kane & Rayna Gellert – Roots-Driven Americana from Two Masterful Collaborators
DESCRIPTION:Kieran Kane & Rayna Gellert bring their roots-driven collaboration to Godfrey Daniels. Kane’s work with The O’Kanes and Dead Reckoning Records helped shape Americana music. At the same time\, Gellert’s deep connection to Appalachian old-time traditions and stringband revival led her from Uncle Earl to acclaimed collaborations. Their duo work blends minimalist songwriting with a shared reverence for tradition\, showcased across four albums and years of creative partnership.\nKieran Kane’s seminal work in The O’Kanes and Kane Welch Kaplin\, as well as co-founding the independent label Dead Reckoning Records\, laid the foundation for the contemporary world of Americana music. A successful solo artist\, collaborator\, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson\, John Prine\, Emmylou Harris\, and many more)\, Kieran is a musician’s musician: his playing is always understated\, always groove-oriented\, and always serving the song.\nIf Rayna Gellert seems a preternaturally gifted songwriter\, it’s because she’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family\, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age\, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator\, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller\, Abigail Washburn\, Toubab Krewe\, and Robyn Hitchcock.

SUMMARY:Bethlehem Steel Locomotive Experiences
DESCRIPTION:The National Museum of Industrial History is excited to offer a hands-on train engineer experience on its restored narrow gauge locomotive! Situated in the museum’s park area\, the 1941 Whitcomb diesel-electric locomotive was used at Bethlehem Steel in the Electric Furnace Melt Shop where it moved trains of scrap metal. Restored by museum volunteers and staff to working condition\, the train operates on a little over 100 feet of demonstration track. During this educational experience participants will be able to climb into the cab\, learn how the locomotive works\, then take the controls under the supervision of museum personnel. The short but memorable runs will let you step back in time\, putting you in the same engineer’s seat as the steelworkers who helped build the country.\nEach experience is limited to two adults or one adult and one child. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes and is weather-dependent. DESCRIPTION:Guests will be welcomed to visit and learn more about the 1751 Old Chapel\, where George Washington and Benjamin Franklin worshipped and which welcomed local Native Americans as well as German settlers in its early history.   The Chapel is still used for Sunday worship\, memorial services\, weddings and other church events.\n\nThe Church Sanctuary was built from 1803-1806.  Guests will learn more not only about its architectural design\, history of music and worship\, but also the living ministries of Central Moravian Church today.  Unique places like the 2nd floor Kleiner Saal will be included on this tour.   A suggested donation of $5/person.   A gift shop with many unique Moravian items\, as well as books and other gifts will be open.\n\nOutside of our regular hours\, guided tours of the Sanctuary and Old Chapel can also be arranged by contacting the church office at 610-866-5661. A suggested donation of $5/person is requested for these tours.   They can be arranged subject to a tour guide and the church’s availability.

DESCRIPTION:On November 7\, 1975\, the day after his 34th birthday\, RCA Records released Old No. 1\, legendary songwriter Guy Clark’s debut album. While not a commercial success by any stretch\, the album was highly praised by the press and “L.A. Freeway\,” “Desperados Waiting for a Train\,” “Rita Ballou\,” “Texas 1947\,” “Let Him Roll\,” and “That Old Time Feeling” soon became instant classics. No one could have known then that Old No. 1 would inspire generations of American songwriters\, troubadours\, and music fans.\nThe Guy Clark Family Foundation\, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to supporting songwriters\, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Old No. 1 with a series of concerts around the country to bring awareness to the organization and to boost songwriters who work in the spirit of Guy Clark. Songwriters will perform songs from Old No. 1\, followed by a set of their original material. \nTicket sales will benefit The Guy Clark Family Foundation.

This three-and-a-half-hour seated tour will be led by historian Charlene Palmore-Lewis\, who will guide us to important sites including: The President’s House\, Congo Square\, The London Coffee House\, Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Departs at 10 a.m. on Saturday\, September 27 from College Hill Moravian Church parking lot. Bring your own brown bag lunch to enjoy en route. Tour Starts at 1 p.m. at the Independence Visitor Center\, departs at 4:30 p.m.\, back in Bethlehem around 6 p.m. Cost: $35/ person. DESCRIPTION:Contra dance is a New England Folk dance similar to square dancing – you dance with a partner (but no partner needs to come) in long lines to live\, vigorous music.  The moves are called by a live caller who teaches each dance with a walk through.  Bring soft soled shoes like sneakers so as not to mark the lovely wooden floor. Lesson starts at 7 to teach the figures used in each dance.  Children under 12 free with a paying adult.  Students $8.
