DESCRIPTION:Checking In? Bethlehem’s Alluring Accommodations Exhibit is Now Open! \nThis experience transports guests back nearly three hundred years to various hospitality sites in downtown Bethlehem. This multi-site experience ventures to the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem and the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts. Guests will visit sites such as the fictional Moravian Inn\, a reconstruction of the Eagle Hotel\, and the Sun Inn. Along the way\, guests will learn all about the various visitors of Bethlehem\, the importance of hospitality to Bethlehem’s history\, and the roots of these hotels in shaping the United States.  \nThis exhibit offers two ticketing options\, one of which includes a Christmas City Spirits tasting experience and a complimentary tasting glass with a recipe at the conclusion of the tour at the Sun Inn.  \nThe Kemerer Museum and Moravian Museum are open Friday through Sunday\, 11 AM – 5 PM. DESCRIPTION:The Ballet Guild’s Summer Dance Program will be held from June 24 through August 2 and includes day classes for the serious pre-professional dancer as well as age-appropriate classes for children and adults. Our classes emphasize the development of ballet skills\, with a focus on knowledge\, proper placement\, and alignment. Students are encouraged to build confidence through accomplishments in dance. \nThe Pre-Professional Division (Monday through Friday days) is designed for the serious dancer ages 9 and up with dance experience and includes ballet\, pointe (where appropriate)\, tap\, Progressing Ballet Technique\, and much more! The Community Division with late afternoon and evening classes offers Pre-Ballet for ages 3 and 4; Youth Ballet for ages 5-12; Adult/Teen Ballet and Pointe for ages 13 & up; Adult/Teen Beginning Ballet; and Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) for adults/teens! DESCRIPTION:Artist Tim Higgins will be exhibiting his digital collage works\, “Please Stand By”\, at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from July 3 to August 13\, 2024. There will be an opening reception on Sunday\, July 14 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nThe exhibition is composed of hundreds of collaged images and elements depicting themes from comics\, pulp fiction\, television\, film and everyday life. High Art meets Low Art as Higgins creates new works from material either originally sourced or appropriated from a variety of sources and media. The works are either printed on paper and framed or mounted on glass. \nTim Higgins is a multi-disciplinary artist who has worked in graphics\, painting and short film. He grew up in Allentown\, attended Salisbury High School\, and studied commercial art at Northampton County Community College and fine arts with a concentration in painting at Kutztown University. Higgins has also been a newspaper editor and reporter in the Lehigh Valley as well as a freelance arts writer.

SUMMARY:Bethlehem Steel Locomotive Experience
DESCRIPTION:The National Museum of Industrial History is excited to offer a hands-on train engineer experience on its restored narrow gauge locomotive! Situated in the museum’s park area\, the 1941 Whitcomb diesel-electric locomotive was used at Bethlehem Steel in the Electric Furnace Melt Shop where it moved trains of scrap metal. Restored by museum volunteers and staff to working condition\, the train operates on a little over 100 feet of demonstration track. During this educational experience participants will be able to climb into the cab\, learn how the locomotive works\, then take the controls under the supervision of museum personnel. The short but memorable runs will let you step back in time\, putting you in the same engineer’s seat as the steelworkers who helped build the country.\nEach experience is limited to two adults or one adult and one child. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes and is weather-dependent. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guest lecture and book signing for “Bethlehem Steel Rusting Relic”. In 2001\, the unthinkable happened when Bethlehem Steel declared bankruptcy after nearly a century and a half of making iron and steel for bridges\, buildings\, dams\, railroad rail\, ships\, armor plating\, armaments\, and numerous other products. When the flagship plant in Bethlehem\, Pennsylvania\, closed\, it sat abandoned for some years before the hallowed site was repurposed with a casino\, hotel\, restaurants\, and shops. During the time in between\, Steven M. Landis had rare\, sanctioned access to photograph the derelict plant\, capturing incredible photography of many never-before-seen and likely never-to-be-seen-again perspectives by climbing everything he could\, both inside and outside the abandoned buildings\, including to the top of the blast furnaces. When combined with his artistic eye\, the viewers will find that Steven’s camerawork truly “elevates” Bethlehem Steel photography. His dad\, John K. Landis\, subsequently became an Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites tour guide in 2019 and began showing those photographs–published here for the first time–to visitors in order to reveal sections of the shuttered plant that were inaccessible or altogether gone. John wrote the accompanying text after hosting hundreds of Bethlehem Steel plant tours. Included with Museum Admission. \nSteven M. Landis works as a key account manager in the automotive industry\, where he has been employed in a variety of roles for nearly two decades. He is an inventor and creative writer\, enjoys the agony and elation of mountain climbing\, and loves photographing the beautiful\, bizarre\, and especially hard-to-access or abandoned places. He regrets having been too young to ever have worked at Bethlehem Steel but counts the rare access he had exploring and photographing the hallowed grounds of the former flagship plant—where so much of modern U.S. and global history was written—as being among the best moments in his life. \nJohn K. Landis\, a steel plant tour guide with Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites\, is often asked if he worked for Bethlehem Steel. He is in fact a graphic designer and professor emeritus of art. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nThe exhibition is composed of ordinary\, everyday still life subjects in oils and drawings.  Objects that would be commonly categorized in the Pop Art genre\, but in this case\, not rendered in a slick\, flat poster-like\, Pop Art style ala Warhol or Lichenstein.  Robert tries to portray the subjects in a more classical approach in the sense of employing a stricter technique respecting drawing practices that emphasize the “thingness”\, solidity\, presence\, and perspective of the objects.  He attempts to make them hyper real\, not in the photorealistic sense\, but by exaggerating the properties of the proportions\, the intensity of the color\, and the scale of the thing to an obviously greater degree. \nRobert recently retired from teaching drawing and painting at the Penn State University Schuykill Campus after 35 years.  He now works on his art totally uninterrupted.  He earned a B.S. and M.Ed in art education from Kutztown University\, and a M.F.A. from Idaho State University.  A total formalist.  he addresses the basic elements and principles of design\, choosing his subjects for the challenges they present.  \nAlthough both Robert’s wet and dry medium pieces may initially be perceived as merely black and white\, he strives to achieve another dimension to the value scale of his imagery by pushing the warm and cool properties of the materials through their selection and handing. He will also stretch out the spectrum of the lights to darks to enhance and give his subject matter a greater presence. \nRobert has shown nationally and is represented by several galleries.  He continues to show in national juried competitions wining numerous prizes.  He has shown at the Pennsylvania Art of the State Annual Juried Exhibition numerous times.  His work is in the collection of the State Museum of Pennsylvania and the American Embassy in Moldova. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission (www.bfac-lv.org).

SUMMARY:Bethlehem Steel Locomotive Experience
DESCRIPTION:The National Museum of Industrial History is excited to offer a hands-on train engineer experience on its restored narrow gauge locomotive! Situated in the museum’s park area\, the 1941 Whitcomb diesel-electric locomotive was used at Bethlehem Steel in the Electric Furnace Melt Shop where it moved trains of scrap metal. Restored by museum volunteers and staff to working condition\, the train operates on a little over 100 feet of demonstration track. During this educational experience participants will be able to climb into the cab\, learn how the locomotive works\, then take the controls under the supervision of museum personnel. The short but memorable runs will let you step back in time\, putting you in the same engineer’s seat as the steelworkers who helped build the country.\nEach experience is limited to two adults or one adult and one child. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes and is weather-dependent. Ceremony and ritual is intertwined in all of our lives all around the world in different ways. Taking journal entries and transforming them into song poems inspired by life experiences. Influenced by nature\, specifically birds\, their flying patterns and songs. She creates other visuals as well when inspired.\nNia is also a yoga instructor offering diverse classes to the valley for the past decade. She has taught early childhood since 2009.  Currently\, Nia is in the midst of learning to be a birth worker to support birthing beings themselves and those who are growing within them from conceiving to postpartum. Her classes and community offerings weave all the parts of herself together. Offering movement with a touch of playfulness and songs to soothe everyone present.\nNia has performed here in the Valley\, Philadelphia Amsterdam and Rio de Janeiro. She hopes to keep learning and growing and sharing the lessons she learns along the way.\n \nChloe Cole-Wilson\n \nChloe Cole-Wilson has been engaging in social work and trauma-informed care for communities of color and LGBTQ communities for more than nine years\, and is the cofounder of Basement Poetry\, a community-centered theater company. In addition to her work in poetry and theater\, Chloe works as a Program Supervisor at Silk Lehigh Valley\, teaches theater\, and serves as a substance-abuse counselor. She is also an Art & Action Fellow for the Allentown Art Museum. Chloe is committed to creating spaces where it is safe to process intense topics such as death\, racism\, mental health\, and the obstacles faced by LGBTQ+ folks.
