SUMMARY:Crop Walk – New Route\, Same Great Cause!
DESCRIPTION:Help raise money for local and international hunger by walking with us on Sunday\, October 19th at 2 pm.\, starting at the CE building! We have one worship service that day at 12 p.m. (due to the Running festival earlier in the morning). Right after worship\, we will gather in the Christian Education building\, lower level (40 W Church St.) at 1:15 pm for lunch and opening ceremonies\, registration. The walk kicks off at 2 p.m. from the Christian Education building. \nWhat is the CROP Walk? It’s a walk with a purpose; 25% of all funds will stay in Bethlehem feeding hungry people and 75% will go to international hunger relief through Church World Service. This year’s walk is a new route! It is about 2 miles\nthrough many of the newly inscribed World Heritage properties\, taking you down Church St. into the Colonial Industrial Quarters and up Spring Street to the first stop – the site of Essentials Cafe\, one of our recipients of the Crop Walk. Then we will walk over the Broad St. bridge and up to Center St. to get to Bethlehem Emergency Shelter at Christ UCC Church\, another recipient of the walk’s funds. Other recipients include New Bethany\, Freezer Gatherers\, and Lehigh Conference of Churches. All of these agencies work to supply food to hungry people in Bethlehem through food pantries\, access to fresh produce\, emergency meals/housing\, etc. There will be a shorter route available as well. DESCRIPTION:Conductor Hans von Bulow counted composers Bach\, Beethoven\, and Brahms as the “Three B’s” of classical music in the late 19th century. The Frequency String Quartet\, Lehigh’s Faculty String Quartet\, presents an afternoon of music written by three composers that provide an alternate version of the “Three B’s”-Brahms\, Bologne\, and Bartók. Joseph Bologne\, the Chevalier de Saint-Georges\, was a French composer from the Classical Era whose charming quartets were performed in the court of Louis XVI\, and Béla Bartók’s quartets represent some of the most important works of the 20th century.
