SUMMARY:Bethlehem Steel Locomotive Experiences
DESCRIPTION:The National Museum of Industrial History is excited to offer a hands-on train engineer experience on its restored narrow gauge locomotive! Situated in the museum’s park area\, the 1941 Whitcomb diesel-electric locomotive was used at Bethlehem Steel in the Electric Furnace Melt Shop where it moved trains of scrap metal. Restored by museum volunteers and staff to working condition\, the train operates on a little over 100 feet of demonstration track. During this educational experience participants will be able to climb into the cab\, learn how the locomotive works\, then take the controls under the supervision of museum personnel. The short but memorable runs will let you step back in time\, putting you in the same engineer’s seat as the steelworkers who helped build the country.\nEach experience is limited to two adults or one adult and one child. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes and is weather-dependent. St. Francis was renowned for remembering the sanctity and care for all life\, animals and people. \nThis Sunday\, October 5th\, we invite you to bring your pets (or a photo if they don’t travel well) to the lower church green at 2 p.m. (right outside the NE door)\, for our annual Blessing of the Animals. Children are welcome to bring a favorite stuffed animal for a blessing as well. If you have lost a pet\, feel free to come as we also will have a time of silence and remembrance. DESCRIPTION:Kurbasy is an avant-garde musical project of the renowned progressive Les Kurbas Theatre in Lviv\, Ukraine. Founded in 2008 as an informal vocal gathering of singer-actresses\, the group has performed across Europe – from the front lines of occupied Eastern Ukraine to concert halls in Western Europe and the USA. The ambient approach of Kurbasy gives life to the indigenous polyphonic sounds of Ukraine’s rich traditional music heritage. Their sonic-theatrical explorations of Ukraine’s rich trove of calendar songs\, lullabies\, and legends\, conjure the natural world\, beliefs\, and rituals\, channeling contemporary connections to an archaic past.
