DESCRIPTION:Lehigh Valley painter\, Joseph Skrapits will be exhibiting his still life and landscape paintings titled Inside and Out at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from May 23 to June 30\, 2025.  There will be an opening reception on Sunday\, June 1 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM with an artist talk at 3:00 PM.  The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nThis show has given Joseph the chance to review his work of the past forty years in the two genres where he has been most active: plein air landscape and still life. He has chosen to exhibit paintings that he has rarely shown\, emphasizing pairings that highlight changes in his approach over time. \nPhilosophically\, the big change has been a movement from an enthusiastic truth-to-nature approach toward a more considered understanding of painting as a kind of “timelessness machine.” Through the analysis and manipulation of design elements (tonal value\, color and composition)\, Joseph enjoys exploring the aesthetic qualities in his subjects\, hopefully inducing in the viewer the emotion he experience in painting. \nHe graduated from Lehigh University with a B.A. in psychology/fine art in 1972 and worked as a freelance writer for national magazines\, specializing in the history and practice of painting. In 1985\, he began painting as a casual student of the late artist Antonio Salemme\, who taught a direct\, spontaneous approach stressing the structural and emotional properties of color.  Joseph’s writing career enabled him to continue his education through the study of historical art movements and through interviews with contemporary artists. He resides and has his studio in Allentown\, Pennsylvania. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission (www.bfac-lv.org) and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

SUMMARY:The Last Days of Cleopatra: A New Musical Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Following a celebrated professional staged reading at New York City’s Theater Row\, the new musical comedy about the making of the film “Cleopatra\,” with book\, music and lyrics by Charles Barnett (When We Get There)\, will be presented by the Crowded Kitchen Players in association with Ice House Performing Arts Collaborative in Bethlehem\, PA. Six performances will be staged from June 13-22\, 2025 at The Ice House\, 56 River Street\, Bethlehem\, PA 18018. \nThe Last Days of Cleopatra is an entertaining romp of a farce about love\, betrayal\, and triumph\, all told in a setting of strife and midcentury-modern glamour. It’s 1961. After a calamitous start in London\, the cast and crew of the film “Cleopatra” move to Cinecittà Studios in Rome to re-start the film. The dazzling Elizabeth Taylor has stayed on in the role of Cleopatra\, but she has a new co-star: Richard Burton\, a famed Shakespearean actor\, who has joined the cast as Mark Antony. With the largest budget in Hollywood’s history and an acclaimed new director\, Joseph Mankiewicz\,  the production seems to be back on track. But in reality\, this esteemed cast and crew are in the process of making one of the biggest turkeys of all time. All while Taylor and Burton strike up a world-famous adulterous affair that ends Taylor’s marriage and drenches the production in scandal. As Taylor learns hard lessons\, though\, other troupers meet sunnier fates\, finding friendship or true love on the set of this colossal disaster. \nAra Barlieb directs a cast of 13\, including Sami Kennett* as Elizabeth Taylor and Albert Nelthropp* as Richard Burton with Jenna Atkinson\, Bruce Brown\, Lauren Curley\, Nina Elias\, Sharon A. DESCRIPTION:Explore the 26th World Heritage Site in the United States – Moravian Church Settlements – Bethlehem – on this exciting 90-minute tour.\nThis comprehensive tour of Moravian Church Settlements – Bethlehem’s buildings and sites focuses on the approximately two-square block area of historic downtown Bethlehem that the Moravian settlers recognized as the center of their community\, as well as the living heritage and traditions that the Moravian Church Settlements still carry out today.\nOn this tour\, you’ll discover the Moravians’ history as you start out at the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem\, in the 1741 Gemeinhaus\, the only 18th century Moravian Gemeinhaus still in existence in the world. Next\, you’ll visit the Bell House Courtyard to see the 1746-1749 Bell House\, the First Single Brethren’s House/the Single Sisters’ House and the 1768 Widows’ House. Following this\, attendees will step inside the 1751 Old Chapel and the 1803-06 Central Moravian Church Sanctuary before walking through God’s Acre cemetery\, the final resting place for Moravians from 1742-1911. The tour concludes on Main Street with a look at the 1748 Second Single Brethren’s House and the 1761 Tannery and 1762 Waterworks in the Colonial Industrial Quarter.\nAfter your tour concludes\, you are invited to return to the Moravian Complex for a more in-depth tour of the Moravian Museum.

SUMMARY:Old Chapel & Sanctuary Tours
DESCRIPTION:The 1751 Old Chapel will be open each Friday and Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Learn about the Moravian Daily Textbook\, a short daily devotion that has been a part of Moravian tradition since 1731.  Guests will be welcomed to visit and learn more about the 1751 Old Chapel\, where George Washington and Benjamin Franklin worshipped and which welcomed local Native Americans as well as German settlers in its early history. The Chapel is still used for Sunday worship\, memorial services\, weddings and other church events. Dates subject to change in the event of a church function. Please check website.  \nThe Church Sanctuary\, built from 1803-1806\, is open for guided tours from 2 – 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Guests will be welcomed to take this 45-minute tour of the sanctuary learning more not only about its architectural design\, history of music and worship\, but also the living ministries of Central Moravian Church today. Unique places like the 2nd floor Kleiner Saal will be included on this tour. A suggested donation of $5/person. A gift shop with many unique Moravian items\, as well as books and other gifts will be open.  \nGuests should enter on the Northeast side of the church\, the door accessible to the church green and Heckewelder Place (closest to Moravian Book store).\nGuided tours of the Sanctuary and Old Chapel can also be arranged by contacting the church office at 610-866-5661. suggested donation of $5/person is requested for these tours. DESCRIPTION:Following a celebrated professional staged reading at New York City’s Theater Row\, the new musical comedy about the making of the film “Cleopatra\,” with book\, music and lyrics by Charles Barnett (When We Get There)\, will be presented by the Crowded Kitchen Players in association with Ice House Performing Arts Collaborative in Bethlehem\, PA. Six performances will be staged from June 13-22\, 2025 at The Ice House\, 56 River Street\, Bethlehem\, PA 18018. \nThe Last Days of Cleopatra is an entertaining romp of a farce about love\, betrayal\, and triumph\, all told in a setting of strife and midcentury-modern glamour. It’s 1961. After a calamitous start in London\, the cast and crew of the film “Cleopatra” move to Cinecittà Studios in Rome to re-start the film. The dazzling Elizabeth Taylor has stayed on in the role of Cleopatra\, but she has a new co-star: Richard Burton\, a famed Shakespearean actor\, who has joined the cast as Mark Antony. With the largest budget in Hollywood’s history and an acclaimed new director\, Joseph Mankiewicz\,  the production seems to be back on track. But in reality\, this esteemed cast and crew are in the process of making one of the biggest turkeys of all time. All while Taylor and Burton strike up a world-famous adulterous affair that ends Taylor’s marriage and drenches the production in scandal.
