DESCRIPTION:Lehigh Valley painter\, Joseph Skrapits will be exhibiting his still life and landscape paintings titled Inside and Out at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from May 23 to June 30\, 2025.  There will be an opening reception on Sunday\, June 1 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM with an artist talk at 3:00 PM.  The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nThis show has given Joseph the chance to review his work of the past forty years in the two genres where he has been most active: plein air landscape and still life. He has chosen to exhibit paintings that he has rarely shown\, emphasizing pairings that highlight changes in his approach over time. \nPhilosophically\, the big change has been a movement from an enthusiastic truth-to-nature approach toward a more considered understanding of painting as a kind of “timelessness machine.” Through the analysis and manipulation of design elements (tonal value\, color and composition)\, Joseph enjoys exploring the aesthetic qualities in his subjects\, hopefully inducing in the viewer the emotion he experience in painting. \nHe graduated from Lehigh University with a B.A. in psychology/fine art in 1972 and worked as a freelance writer for national magazines\, specializing in the history and practice of painting. In 1985\, he began painting as a casual student of the late artist Antonio Salemme\, who taught a direct\, spontaneous approach stressing the structural and emotional properties of color.  Joseph’s writing career enabled him to continue his education through the study of historical art movements and through interviews with contemporary artists. He resides and has his studio in Allentown\, Pennsylvania. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission (www.bfac-lv.org) and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

DESCRIPTION:The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts)  Production Arts Department is excited for its annual Portfolio Review event on Friday\, May 30th at 7 PM! This evening provides junior and senior production arts students the opportunity to display and speak about their film projects as well as their various set\, lighting\, sound\, prop\, and costuming designs.   The school’s production designers work tirelessly behind the scenes to make the school’s productions shine throughout the year. \nThis is a free\,  non-ticketed event. Guests are also encouraged to stop into the school’s Senior Literary Arts Showcase happening the same evening. \nABOUT THE CHARTER ARTS PRODUCTION ARTS DEPARTMENT: \nStudents in this department explore the making of both live and recorded entertainment productions through producing\, event management\, design\, technology and construction. Students graduate with skills in set design and construction\, costume design and construction\, audio and video production\, lighting design\, stage management\, prop fabrication\, special effects makeup application\, projection design and animation\, and more. \n\nProduction Arts students collaborate as a design team to produce original works including but not limited to: design-centric performance\, multi-medium collages\, and immersive installations. The Production Arts Department offers students the opportunity to work with directors\, choreographers and peers on conceptualizing\, designing\, and creating for school-wide events and performances.Prospective students and families who would like to learn more about the Production Arts (Film & Technical Theatre) Department and the school are encouraged to attend an upcoming admissions event or contact the school’s admissions office.
