SUMMARY:Luke Wynne\, photography exhibition\, view / FINDER
DESCRIPTION:International photographer\, Luke Wynne will be exhibiting his photographs titled  view / FINDER  at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from November 12 to December 19\, 2024.  There will be an artist reception on Sunday\, November 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.  The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nAlmost a half century ago John Szarkowski (Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art) published his book\, The Photographer*s Eye. This seminal work holds together today as well as it did 48 years ago. Here is the opening of his introduction\, “This book is an investigation of what photographs look like\, and why they look that way. The invention of photography provided a radically new picture-making process —a process based not on synthesis but on selection.”  lndeed. \nWhat to keep\, and what to discard? That is the primary conundrum that photographers face when they pick up the camera and put their eye to the viewfinder. What to keep and what to discard. That is life in the Viewfinder. It is a place I cherish. The VIEW exists — it is up to me to FIND what to capture. \nLuke Wynne’s photographic career began in NYC.  His work appeared in Andy Warhol’s Interview\, New York Magazine\, and Cosmopolitan.  He moved to Los Angeles in 1980 where he was an editorial\, portrait and movie photographer. He worked on more than 30 films for Disney\, Fox\, Universal and Paramount Studios.  His editorial work continued with the magazines: Shape\, New West\, Voice (France)\, Oggi (Italy) and TelePoche (France). \nWynne lived in Italy from 1999 to 2011\, where he conducted portrait workshops and advanced photography courses. \nHe returned to the USA and moved to Easton\, PA.  He received part of an NEA grant for everyday in 2011. Wynne has been an Adjunct Professor of Photography at Moravian University since 2014.  In 2015\, he produced a book – Artists in Residence – with a show at the Banana Factory. In 2017\, he was an exhibitor and curator of the Allentown Art Museum exhibition Allentown X 7: Photographic Explorations.  In 2023\, he curated the exhibition Magical Seeing at Moravian University’s Payne Gallery.

SUMMARY:Call for Artist Submissions -- Here & Now: LUAG Celebrates 100 Years with 100 Local Artists
DESCRIPTION:Here & Now: LUAG Celebrates 100 Years with 100 Local Artists\nFrom the engineering and artistry of the original Lenape people\, through the upheavals of the steel and railroad industries\, to the hi-tech manufacturing of today\, makers and innovators of all kinds have found a home in the Lehigh Valley.  Perhaps unsurprisingly\, this maker mindset found its way into the DNA of Lehigh University\, shaping both artists and engineers and setting the stage for Lehigh University Art Galleries (LUAG). \nTracing our roots to 1926\, the year of the first known art exhibition on campus\, LUAG has grown into a vibrant museum with robust programs and a collection of over 20\,000 works of art. \nIn honor of this milestone\, LUAG presents an open call to a juried exhibition of 100 local artists reflecting the wide range of artistic practices thriving in our community today. Artists (aged 18+ years) in a range of media are encouraged to submit work to this salon-style exhibition which will take place in the LUAG Main Gallery.* \nThe exhibition will coincide with an initiative to make significant purchases of works by local artists for the university’s collection. \n*Please see detailed submission guidelines for more information.\nSubmit your artwork here.\nSubmissions close January 5 at midnight (11:59 pm) \n_____________________________ \nWHO CAN APPLY? \nArtists with any level of experience aged 18+ years living and working within the Lehigh Valley and neighboring communities within a 35-mile radius of Bethlehem\, PA. \nArtists living/working primarily in Philadelphia are not eligible for the exhibition \nTIMELINE \nSubmissions open: November 1\, 2024 \nSubmissions close: Jan 5\, 2025 (midnight) \nJurying starts in early January \nAcceptances announced: March 1\, 2025 \nLoan agreements prepared and signed prior to drop-off \nDrop-off dates determined. \nDrop off for members of Lehigh campus community: May 5-9\, 2025 \nGeneral drop off: August 4-8\, 2025 \nExhibition dates: September 2\, 2025 – May 22\, 2026 \nPickup of works: May 26-29\, 2026 \nJURYING \nWorks will be juried by the Director and Curators of Lehigh University Art Galleries in consultation with the museum staff\, along with guest community jurors. \nTHE SPACE \nThe exhibition will take place in the LUAG Main Gallery\, located in the Zoellner Arts Center on Lehigh University’s Asa Packer campus (420 E. Packer Ave\, Bethlehem\, PA 18015).  The gallery is roughly 2500 sf. Please consider the space parameters in light of a 100-person exhibition as you decide which works to submit.  See map on full invitational doc here. \nQUESTIONS? \nContact us at luag@lehigh.edu or 610.758.3615. \n*Please see detailed submission guidelines for more information. \nSubmit your artwork here.
