SUMMARY:Checking In Exhibit Now Open
DESCRIPTION:Checking In? Bethlehem’s Alluring Accommodations Exhibit is Now Open! \nThis experience transports guests back nearly three hundred years to various hospitality sites in downtown Bethlehem. This multi-site experience ventures to the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem and the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts. Guests will visit sites such as the fictional Moravian Inn\, a reconstruction of the Eagle Hotel\, and the Sun Inn. Along the way\, guests will learn all about the various visitors of Bethlehem\, the importance of hospitality to Bethlehem’s history\, and the roots of these hotels in shaping the United States.  \nThis exhibit offers two ticketing options\, one of which includes a Christmas City Spirits tasting experience and a complimentary tasting glass with a recipe at the conclusion of the tour at the Sun Inn.  \nThe Kemerer Museum and Moravian Museum are open Friday through Sunday\, 11 AM – 5 PM. The Sun Inn is open Wednesday through Saturday\, 12 PM – 9 PM. For ticketing and additional information visit: https://www.historicbethlehem.org/experiences/series/checking-in-bethlehems-alluring-accommodations/#:~:text=Guests%20will%20%E2%80%9Ccheck%2Din%E2%80%9D\,keep%20by%20performing%20several%20tasks.

SUMMARY:Another Point of View: 4 Visually Impaired Artists
DESCRIPTION:The Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission presents an invitational exhibition: “Another Point of View: 4 Visually Impaired Artists” that highlights the work of  Mary Ann Dunwoodie\, Michael Freeman\, Dianne Michels\, and Terry Newhard at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from September 30 to November 4\, 2024.  The exhibition brings together 4 visually impaired artisans with varying degrees of vision who use their personal creative process as a means of self expression and inspiration. The goal is to bring together members of the sighted community with these talented artisans. While their sight may have darkened and somewhat dimmed\, all of these artists have a visionary quest which shows no limits and takes us forward into the light. “This exhibit will allow the community to expand its imagination on the subject and medium of each work of art\, much like many exhibits do\,” Bethlehem Mayor J. William Reynolds stated\, “but it will also expand our imagination on what is possible when we challenge the idea of what ‘disability’ allows us\, or does not allow us\, to create.”  \nThere will be an artist reception on Sunday\, October 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.  The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission (www.bfac-lv.org) and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

The goal is to provide students with the skills they will need to move on to competitive college programs as well as professional theatre experiences.Classes are designed to encourage students to create imaginative and compelling characters\, to regard their voices and bodies as creative instruments\, to expose them to theatrical literature and to instill in them a sense of respect and professionalism for the art form that will stay with them throughout their lives. \nThe department will also continue to engage alumni performers\, directors and artists this year as part of its Alumni Artist-in-Residence program. Minner-Bickert shares: “The creation of this program was to keep our alumni connected to Charter Arts and to reinforce with our current students that they will always have a home here with us. We demonstrate that we value artistry and we want to instill in our young artists that when they reach a certain skill level of mastery in their art they have a right to be celebrated and paid for their contributions as professional artists.” \nABOUT THE LEHIGH VALLEY CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS (Charter Arts): \nCharter Arts is an audition-based public charter school that provides a comprehensive curriculum for high school students\, grades 9-12\, who have a dedicated passion for the creative and performing arts.  Students major in one of seven artistic areas: dance\, instrumental music\, literary arts\, production arts\, theatre\, visual arts\, or vocal music. \nCharter Arts’ rigorous curriculum fosters both academic and artistic excellence for its students. SUMMARY:Luke Wynne\, photography exhibition\, view / FINDER
DESCRIPTION:International photographer\, Luke Wynne will be exhibiting his photographs titled  view / FINDER  at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from November 12 to December 19\, 2024.  There will be an artist reception on Sunday\, November 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.  The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street.  Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nAlmost a half century ago John Szarkowski (Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art) published his book\, The Photographer*s Eye. This seminal work holds together today as well as it did 48 years ago. Here is the opening of his introduction\, “This book is an investigation of what photographs look like\, and why they look that way. The invention of photography provided a radically new picture-making process —a process based not on synthesis but on selection.”  lndeed. \nWhat to keep\, and what to discard? That is the primary conundrum that photographers face when they pick up the camera and put their eye to the viewfinder. What to keep and what to discard. That is life in the Viewfinder. It is a place I cherish. The VIEW exists — it is up to me to FIND what to capture. \nLuke Wynne’s photographic career began in NYC.  His work appeared in Andy Warhol’s Interview\, New York Magazine\, and Cosmopolitan.  He moved to Los Angeles in 1980 where he was an editorial\, portrait and movie photographer. He worked on more than 30 films for Disney\, Fox\, Universal and Paramount Studios.  His editorial work continued with the magazines: Shape\, New West\, Voice (France)\, Oggi (Italy) and TelePoche (France). \nWynne lived in Italy from 1999 to 2011\, where he conducted portrait workshops and advanced photography courses. \nHe returned to the USA and moved to Easton\, PA.  He received part of an NEA grant for everyday in 2011. Wynne has been an Adjunct Professor of Photography at Moravian University since 2014.  In 2015\, he produced a book – Artists in Residence – with a show at the Banana Factory. In 2017\, he was an exhibitor and curator of the Allentown Art Museum exhibition Allentown X 7: Photographic Explorations.  In 2023\, he curated the exhibition Magical Seeing at Moravian University’s Payne Gallery.

SUMMARY:WXPN Welcomes Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn
DESCRIPTION:Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn\, “the king and queen of the banjo” (Paste Magazine)\, have a musical partnership like no other. Béla Fleck is a 15-time Grammy Award winner who has taken the instrument across multiple genres\, and Abigail Washburn a singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo player who re-radicalized it by combining it with Far East culture and sounds. The two met at a square dance\, began collaborating musically\, and eventually fell in love. Over the years\, they played together most visibly in the Sparrow Quartet alongside Ben Sollee and Casey Driessen and informally at a pickin’ party here\, a benefit there\, or occasionally popping up in each other’s solo shows. Fans of tradition-tweaking acoustic fare eagerly anticipated that Béla & Abigail would begin making music together as a duo. Whether at home\, on stage\, or on record\, their deep bond\, combined with the way their distinct musical personalities and banjo styles interact\, makes theirs a picking partnership unlike any other on the planet.
